The technique
In an original perspective result, the characters must be sought on the canvases without ever stopping at first glance, which an overall view may not reveal.
Franca’s artwork distinctive feature is that nothing is traced beforehand. Not a sketch, not a preparatory drawing. As she herself states, it’s almost as if someone guides her hand and materializes the painted picture on the canvas, rich in minutiae of details that only an attentive eye can grasp.
Her primary technique is oil on canvas, but her research has led her to explore other mediums such as tempera and oil, ink, and grisaille.
In her works, her moods are transported onto the canvas. The darkest, most dramatic periods are characterized by paintings with dark backgrounds from which various characters emerge, like from an ancestral world, in a striking contrast between good and evil, shadows and light, so as to underline the pitfalls of life, the sudden pain.
